“The DREAM Act (short for Development, 救援, and Education for Alien Minors Act) was a bill in Congress that would have granted legal status to certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and went to school here. Although several versions of the bill have been introduced in Congress since 2001, 它从未通过.
在过去几年里, the term “DREAMer” has been used to describe young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children, who have lived and gone to school here, and who in many cases identify as American.” (Anti-Defamation League, 2014, 诽谤联盟.org)
It is important to note that not all DACA or undocumented individuals use or prefer the term “梦想er”! If you are not sure which term to use, then it’s best to check in with members of the impacted community on what terminology is preferred to refer to DACA and/or undocumented folks.
